You have most likely noticed that stripes are the bees knees right now. Everywhere you look, you are bound to see stripes! This is somewhat terrifying to me. As someone who has always had the burden of wide hips, I have avoided stripes like the plague. So for those of you with the same fear, I have some alternatives so you can still wear stripes and not feel self conscious all day.
Go vertical instead.
Mix it up with a little chevron.
Go vertical instead.
While I do not feel that horizontal stripes are flattering on most people, vertical is the exact opposite. Vertical stripes are not only elongating, but thinning. Go bold with thicker stripes (here) or keep it simple with thin (here) -- either way, try it out!
Mix it up with a little chevron.
If horizontal stripes are a little to bold a little bit, break them in half. Chevron allows you to make the same statement, but without the anxiety. Chevron, like vertical stripes, can make you appear taller than you actually are. I like the option above (from Dress Barn) because only the center section is chevron; the solid sides make it appear even more thinning.
Accessorize instead.
If you are not quite ready to dive into the wacky world of stripes full-blown, just dip your toe in the water a bit with accessories. Pick up a striped (or chevron) scarf (here) to toss on with a solid and start out your stripe adventure slowly.
