Congrats -- you have survived almost a full week at college! At least that is the point we are at in PA right now. How are you feeling now that you have met some new people and been to your classes? It can be a little overwhelming. Hopefully, this post will help you get organized for class & educational success.
1) Get a planner.
I don't care if it makes you feel ridiculous, you NEED a planner. You will literally have something due every single week. You will not remember what it is without a planner. Your professor is not going to follow you around reminding you of things; this is not high school anymore. You have to do it yourself.
2) Schedule it out.
Aside from your classes, you are also going to be picking up extracurriculars and work. Don't make excuses about forgetting or being late, schedule it out and keep a copy in your room AND in your planner. Again, your professor doesn't care what excuse you come up with. They don't have a problem giving you an F. If you don't remember to show up or complete an assignment, they will not cut you a break (and if they do, count your blessings and don't expect it again).
3) Check your syllabi!
Your syllabi should be your college bible. It is the only place you are going to find every single important due date. Transfer the assignments & due dates into your planner so you always have all important dates in one place.
4) Color Code.
Color coding may seem tedious and ridiculous, but you are going to pat yourself on the back when you wake up late and can just grab class materials based on color alone -- AND make it to class on time! By choosing different colored folders or binder for classes it makes for easy organization.
5) Write down everything!
We have already talked about how busy your schedule is. Whether you are sitting in class or making plans with friends, write down everything. If you feel weird doing that, utilize a calendar on your phone so no one knows what your doing. Don't say "Oh, I'll remember!" because you may not. Bottom line, you have a lot going on so don't make things harder on yourself...just write it down!
Don't worry, you got this. Just breathe and get organized.
Good luck!!
