I know what you are thinking, L&LB has had a style challenge since before it was L&LB (& if I am being honest, the days of #DelishStyleChallenge were my fave -- more on that later). But this is a wardrobe challenge, not a style challenge. What's the difference? Let's talk about it.
Let me dig a bit into the history of #LibLooksStyleChallenge before I get into the radical challenge makeover that has your head spinning (it's really not that big of a deal, promise). On December 30, 2014 I launched my first-ever style challenge. At the time, the blog was still titled Life Is So Delish and therefore the challenge was #DelishStyleChallenge. Let me tell you, it was a hit. First things first, I could easily get dressed in the morning. There was no humming-and-hawing, no internal arguments...I could plan my outfits days, weeks or an entire month in advance if I wanted to! And that was the whole point.
When I dove into the Style Challenge game (Which was a much smaller game back in the day, btw. One that didn't require prizes or enticements to participate...you just wanted to.), I had one goal: inspire people to look at their wardrobe in a completely different way. I mentioned this in the original post (and in this one) because it was and continues to be my primary goal. I know to some of you it seems trivial, but I want to help women express themselves and increase their confidence through the items they choose to put on their bodies. Enter the shift from style challenge to wardrobe challenge.
The more time I spend in the style community on Instagram, the more I learn about what people are or are not getting out of style challenges. I love reading about how easy it is for women to get dressed for work, how they re-wore a piece in a different way, or how they finally branched out to pattern mixing and loved it. I could feel the tide starting to shift when I switched over to #LibLooksStyleChallenge in 2017 and lately I have been reading a lot of "No style challenges today because..." Hell, I even posted that a few times myself last month. And then it clicked -- people feel like style challenges are hindering them. That simply won't do.
So here is the thing, we all need inspiration from time to time. It is hard to get up and put together an outfit with no direction (or at least it is for me -- sure sign that I have too many clothes). That is why I am shifting to a wardrobe challenge. And this is how it's going to work (finally, yes, I know)...
Each month I am going to give you 40 prompts, broken down into 8 categories. You can do any prompt, from any category, on any day you want. No more sneaker prompts on days full of important meetings or wearing your best dress to run errands all day. This challenge works around your schedule, while still providing a hint of inspiration.
Why 40? I understand that not every prompt can work for every person, and you shouldn't be left scrambling for a different idea just because you hate stripes or don't own OTK boots (🙋). This way you will have extras and can cut out the prompts that don't work for you.
What else is different? Not much. It's different, sure, but this is not groundbreaking. The categories will change from month-to-month, but a lot of the prompts will be familiar (+ I will still be doing fun themed prompts for holidays and various nerdy book celebrations). The only other significant change is that I plan to put more of a focus on pieces you don't wear often and re-wearing pieces differently. Ultimately, I am just trying to get back to Priority #1: Inspire people to look at their wardrobe in a completely different way.
I will leave you with this: suspense. I plan on posting #LLBwardroberemix at least three days prior to beginning of a new month. Hang in there folks, we are almost there.

Yay I love this concept! Because nobody should have to run errands in their best dress (unless they WANT to!).
ReplyDeleteAgreed! I would always get so frustrated on days when I had important meetings, but all of the prompts were athleisure!
