I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season! I have a little present for you myself, January's editions of #JANliblooks & #LLBwardroberemix. That's right, I heard you -- you want both! For those of you who crave the structure of traditional style challenges, #JANliblooks is here for you. If you just need a little help here and there, #LLBwardroberemix has got your back. Let's take a look at this months challenges...
For those of you unfamiliar with #LLBwardroberemix, here's how it works: Each month I give you 40 prompts, broken down into eight categories. You can do any prompt, from any category, on any day you want. This challenge works around your schedule while still providing hints of inspiration when you need them. Why 40 prompts? So you can skip the ones that don't work for you and still have a backup plan!
Need something a bit more structured? That's were #JANliblooks comes in...
The daily themes are:
Sunday Best Winter 2020 Trends
Color My Monday
Patterned Tuesday
Better Together Wednesday
Plaid Variations Thursday
Friday Boot Day
All About Hair Saturday
Wed. 1/1: Tshirt & Joggers. I know this is a little unusual, but I want to start off the new year as comfortable as possible.
Thu. 1/2: Window Pane. Not my favorite plaid, I will admit.
Fri. 1/3: Fur-lined Boots. The best kind this time of year, am I right?
Sat. 1/4: Blingy Barrette. I feel like I still have PTSD from the last time barrettes were in, but I am ready to dip my toe back in. Especially because of how pretty and blingy they are (no more neon plastic for me)! Maybe the new barrettes won't rip out multiple strands of hair upon removal.
Sun. 1/5: Simple Frill Seeker. Let's see those ruffles and frills, ladies!
Mon. 1/6: Pantone Classic Blue. I have read a lot of mixed reviews on the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year, but I am seriously freaking pumped for it. Navy blue is my favorite color, but I adore any shade of blue. Plus, I have been dying for a cardigan in this exact shade for YEARS...now maybe I can find one!
Tue. 1/7: Fair Isle Frenzy. A staple in the winter wardrobe.
Wed. 1/8: Jeans & Sneakers. Easy enough, right?
Thu. 1/9: Buffalo Plaid Beauty. *sigh* I love buffalo plaid.
Fri. 1/10: Lace-Up or OTK Boots. I love a good pair of lace-up boots, but I will personally be opting out of OTK. Looking forward to seeing it on all of you with better legs than me though!!
Sat. 1/11: Just A Headband Girl. Living in a lonely world. Took a midnight train to buy more headbands.
Sun. 1/12: Fringe Benefits. I can't believe fringe is back...again. It only ever goes away for a couple of years at a time. What's up with that? I had to wait for flares for practically a decade, but fringe is all like "hey, remember me?" Ugh.
Mon. 1/13: Pinch of Pastel. I love pastels this time of year! (Read in Pauly D's voice)
Tue. 1/14: Daring Dots. I don't want normal dots, I want daring dots. They're loud, bright, maybe in multiples.
Wed. 1/15: Boots & Vest. A classic combination.
Thu. 1/16: Glen Plaid. Ok, I didn't know what glen plaid actually was for years. Turns out I freaking love it so now I know it's name.
Fri. 1/17: Tall Boots. Tall can be knee-high or thigh-high, or anything with a heel.
Sat. 1/18: Favorite Hair Clip. But I have so many! Hair clips may have been out of style for a while, but I never gave up on them!
Sun. 1/19: High Shine. I don't know about you, but I never need a reason for shimmer, glitter and bling.
Mon. 1/20: Fireside Tones. Let's dedicate this day to neutral tones only. Maybe with a pop of orange or red.
Tue. 1/21: Darling Damask. One of my favorite patterns. Difficult to incorporate into your wardrobe so it may be a real challenge.
Wed. 1/22: Sweater & Scarf. A go-to winter combination.
Thu. 1/23: Scottish Tartan. This one will be easier than you think, promise.
Fri. 1/24: Hiker Boots. Combat boots. Why did we have to change the name?
Sat. 1/25: Scrunchie Central. I am pumped for this! Reliving my childhood here, folks. I am thinking about buying a pack of velvet scrunchies, because why not!?
Sun. 1/26: Left Me in Tiers. Not sure how I feel about tiered shirts & dresses coming back, but I am willing to give it a shot. My Mom bought one last month and it looks great on her so we are just going to hope it's the same for me too.
Mon. 1/27: Cool Winter Blues. All the blues. Or just your favorite shade...whatever works.
Tue. 1/28: Sssexy Ssnake Print. I know it seems like a loud print, but just try it in bits and pieces if you aren't sure. A scarf, a pair of shoes, something of that nature.
Wed. 1/29: Flares & Flats. I have no bloody idea why I picked this because I actually prefer flares with heels, but I guess we are all trying something new today.
Thu. 1/30: Gimme Some Gingham. A simple plaid; one that is easy for layering.
Fri. 1/31: Slouchy Boots. I really didn't think I'd see the day that these made a comeback, but here we are. I guess I need to figure out if I saved mine from last time because I am not buying into this trend again. Why anyone would want wrinkled boots is beyond me, but to each their own!
So what do you think of this months prompts?!
I have to be honest, I had very little intention of continuing these style challenge...but as I sat making up an outfit calendar for myself (& my mother) earlier in the week, I figures wth. I mean, I already had the prompts, why not just pretty them up so everyone else could enjoy them too? I feel like I was just being selfish and overly emotional about the whole thing (which is weird considering I rarely have emotion at all). That said, much like with everything else in my life, I am still not committed. If I keep feeling like I am spending time throwing this out into the universe to help literally no one, I'm done. I don't mean to sound so millennial (or maybe I do), but I my only goals for 2020 is to stop putting so much energy into things that ultimately make me unhappy and be ok with saying no for my own mental and emotional health.
Anyway, tangent over. Please remember to use the #JANliblooks & #LLBwardroberemix hashtags when posting so I can see your winter outfits!
P.S. If you are wondering why this month looks a little Christmassy, it's because it is. I originally was shooting for something winter or snowy, but I then I decided that was what everyone else wants not what I actually want. Orthodox Christmas isn't until January 7th, people. I am tired of pretending that it isn't irritating when people tear down Christmas on December 26th. I don't hinder your celebrations, maybe don't hinder mine. Ok, rant really over this time.
