Front Doors

I feel like we are all a little bit voyeuristic, especially when it comes to other peoples spaces. My Grandfather would always make comments about other peoples yards. That was him -- a landscaping nut. He would spend hours upon hours planting flowers and tending to his garden. My mother thrives on people leaving their curtains open at night. Not that she's a peeping Tom or anything creepy, but a little glimpse at their wall or bookshelf while driving down the road and she is happy as can be. She loves seeing what others do with their spaces. Me...I am a weirdo. I love front doors. Not to say I do not observe their landscaping or home decor, but mostly I am distracted right off the bat by their door.

I have always had ugly doors. One of the many issues I have with rental properties...no one puts any money into making the outside (or inside, for that matter) look pretty. And it is a damn shame. A front door is, after all, the one item in your home that people essentially see first. There is no avoiding it. They step foot on your property, chances are they are going to your front door. They will stare at it up your front walk, and then they will physically reach out and touch it to alert you of their presence. It is the one piece in your home that will never go unnoticed. Am I exaggerating this a little? Yeah, probably. But like I said...I am a weirdo.

Here are some keys to a winning door, in my mind anyway.

Color

To me, a fantastic door is as simple as an out of the ordinary color. I am a sucker for pinks, purples and red because they are so bold. I also love the versatility of color; like it can almost change with your mood. Sometimes it can seem welcoming, and other times it could warn people to leave before you go bat crazy on them. This seafoam/minty color is so beautiful. For those living close to the beach especially, it is a must-have.

Glass

What makes a bigger statement than shiny glass? I for one would never have this first door because I am a freak about people being able to see in my house (ironic considering the beginning of this post, I know), but I am still in love with how gorgeous it is. I would maybe consider it more if it were frosted, which is always an option. The glass on the green door is way more up my alley because of the pattern on it.

Double

There is just something about double doors that make a home seem so classy. I love them inside, outside, and everywhere in between.

Accessories

Sometimes the accessories can actually make the door. This lantern paired with the yellow is what makes it for me. I love all of these dark accessories, though -- the lantern, door knocker, house number, and not to mention those bright & welcoming plants. We cannot put all of the pressure on the door alone, can we? On the other hand, all of those strong, bold silver accessories are the best statement pieces in my opinion. They make the door (along with the moulding).

Art

Believe it or not, a door has a unique ability to be a work of art in and of itself. This first one, for example, is stunning. My mothers love of trees would be her go crazy if she ever saw this. The moulding on the white door practically makes it a work of art alone. Between that and the gorgeous floral detailing on the glass windows, it is a winner in my book. What an immediate statement piece that is sure to leave a lasting impression on all of your guests.

Should I ever break down and actually purchase my own home (which is highly unlikely -- I am not a fixer of broken things...I am a pick up the phone and call a repair person), I want an awesome door. I don't know how I will ever choose from so many amazing options, but I assure you...it will be stellar.

I would love to see your front doors of photos of some of your favorites! Feel free to comment or post on IG using hashtag #DelishDoorObsession :)
