While the temperatures may not have made it apparent, winter has been loitering for a couple months now. Moving into the new year with new colder temperatures for us East Coasters, the winter trends are just now beginning to get more and more hype. As usual, I think some of the designers hit the eggnog a little too hard when coming up with some of their so-called masterpieces. That said, I decided to round up some of my favorites that I will be partaking in until Spring decides to grace us with it's presence to share with you.
Colors. I am over-the-moon that the traditional black and white looks will be front and center this season (& hopefully the remainder of the year). Particularly, black & white patterns are rumored to be all the rage -- zebra print, checks, diamonds, you name it! This color scheme has always been one of my go-to ensembles when I am unsure of what to wear in new/different social situations. You simply cannot go wrong with classic black & white pieces!
Details. If you thought all of that black and white meant for a boring season, think again. Sequins and shine are back for another round of excitement. Anything metallic, covered in sequins, adorned with rivets, or silver threaded will be in high demand. I guess 2016 could potentially be the ultimate year of bling.
Fabrics. Suede is attempting one of the biggest comebacks. Shoes, coats, pants, vests, bags...whatever you can imagine I suppose. I have noticed over the past month or so that suede is everywhere and that is not likely to change anytime soon (or at least not until Spring).
Patterns. A couple of years ago I probably would have thrown a miniature temper tantrum over this one, but I have totally been won over by breton stripes. As a girl who has been stuck with wide hips for basically 30 years (eww, I cannot even think about my birthday being next month), stripes have never been much of a friend to me...until 2014...when I decided that I love them too much to care. Lucky for me, there will likely be endless options throughout the majority of 2016.
Silhouettes. Rigid military silhouettes continue from the Fall into the Winter months. Double breasted coats, long capes, gold accents, metal and leather buttons rocked the runways. It seems our military servicemen/women and officers will be the inspiration for our winter wardrobe this year.
Textures. You remember that faux fur vest you bought last year and thought "I cannot possibly get enough wear out of this for it to be worth buying." I do...both of them. Good news--you can continue to wear them again this year! Fur, especially white in color, is said to be a winter staple. Yay for fuzzy warmth!
